Flap surgery treatment (periodontal flap surgery) is a dental procedure used to treat advanced gum disease (periodontitis) and restore gum and bone health around teeth.
What It Involves:
The dentist or periodontist makes small incisions in the gum tissue.
The gums are gently lifted (creating a “flap”) to access deep plaque, tartar, and bacteria below the gumline.
The roots are thoroughly cleaned and smoothed (scaling and root planing).
In some cases, bone grafts or regenerative materials are placed to repair damaged bone.
The gums are then repositioned and sutured back in place.
